Wireless Back Up Internet Options

Many businesses are locked into only one or two internet provider options because of their location.  This can prove to be frustrating for the consumer because if the provider’s internet service goes down often, it leaves the consumer with little alternative options.  That was the case anyway until just recently where the advent of wireless internet has taken hold.

4G technology is a game changer with many of the major carriers jockeying for position to taut the largest, biggest, and badest network.    It is hard to wade through the noise of what is viable for a particular application.    The good news is that wireless technology carriers can provide an excellent inexpensive back up solution.

The best fit for back up internet needs to be assessed on case by case basis.  I found the 4G man to be a helpful resource.   By asking a series of questions about your business needs he can help assess what the best back up internet plan would be.

A couple of examples of how wireless internet technology can be applied for back up.

Clear offers a small fit in the palm of your hand black device that receives the internet signal from the tower and acts like its own router creating wifi that can support up to 5 devices at one time.

Verizon offers a USB stick that plugs into only one device at a time but also can provide a fairly inexpensive backup if the primary internet were to fail.  The 4G man also mentioned a device called a cradle point that can be used in conjunction with the usb stick to create wifi so that multiple devices can connect to the backup internet at one time.
